Bobby Dalbec: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Bobby Dalbec is a player that has shown inconsistency all throughout the season and his entire career with the Boston Red Sox. Dalbec is a player known for crushing balls for home runs or consistently striking out. He is referred to as a traditional power hitter.

During the season, the once-top prospect in the Red Sox organization has demonstrated the good, bad, and ugly sides of his game.

Let's start off with the ugly. Dalbec started the season off-rough! I mean really bad. The power hitter started off the season by batting 4 for 39, or a.102 average. He was not much of a power hitter either! He wasn't making hard contact either, as it took the righty 37 games to hit two home runs.

Another part of Dalbec's game that has been proven inconsistent has been his fielding. Dalbec is often used as a utility player, although he mainly plays first base. AHe currently has a .997 fielding percentage, although he also has a defensive run saved metric of -10 at first base.

Now that we've spoken about the negatives, let's get into the positives with Dalbec's game. When on his game, Dalbec can prove to be the everyday first baseman the Red Sox need. There have been times during the season when Dalbec has been making contact and producing power. For example, in the past three games, Dalbec has four RBI's, two runs and is batting .333. Not bad!

It is also worth noting that Dalbec has gotten better throughout the season. He started the season off batting .102 and is now sitting at.207. The slugging righty has yet to drop below the Mendoza Line since the start of the season.

What is next for Dalbec? Due to the recent injury to Erik Hosmer, it is likely that Dalbec and teammate Franchy Cordero will split time at first base. Dalbec currently has 11 home runs and 34 RBIs this season.
