BoSox Sweep Texas - Casas Debut a Sense of Relief for Red Sox Fans

It has been a rough and disappointing second-half of the season for the Boston Red Sox. But today the Sox completed a four game sweep, of the Texas Rangers.

Connor Wong's First HR:
Connor Wong hit his first-career home run in game two against the Texas Rangers, helping Boston defeat Texas, by a score of 9-1.

Wong was acquire part of the Mookie Betts trade to the LA Dodgers, and his been called up-and-down throughout the first-half of the season.

Wong blasted a two-run dinger during the seventh inning. The former University of Houston native, launched a 439-foot home run, over the Green Monster.


Furthermore, Nick Pivetta started the game off strong pitching three innings, before being pulled due to an injury. Tyler Danish, Matt Strahm, Ryan Braiser, and Kaleb Ort each had strong relief outings leading Boston to another victory.

Brayan Bello's First Win:

Brayan Bello is notched as one of the top pitching prospects in the Boston organization. Bello started game three against the Rangers. The rookie came into the game looking for his first career win, after being knocked around in his previous starts.


Bello provided Boston with six quality innings of work, allowing only three hits and zero runs, on 88 pitches. Xander Bogaerts, and Trevor Story were both good offensively, driving in multiple runs, and eventually propelling Boston to a 5-3 victory.

Bello currently has a 1-4 record, and a 5.91 ERA on the season. 

The New:

One new face was added to the Red Sox lineup this week. Top, slugging, power-hitter Triston Casas was called up to Major Leagues to make his debut. By bringing up the slugging infielder, Boston optioned struggling first basemen Bobby Dalbec to AAA.

Casas has been a top prospect within the Red Sox organization for quite some time. The Red Sox will use the final stretch of the season to give their top prospect development and experience. Casas started off the year in AAA Worcester, although only playing 72 games due to injury.

The lefty started at first-base today and looked comfortable defensively. While on the offensive side, Casas notched his first MLB hit, off of John King of the Texas Rangers. Casas finished the day batting 1-for-4, and is likely to remain in the Red Sox lineup for the majority of the remaining season.


Boston took game four by a score of 5-2.

Next:

The Red Sox are back on the road and will take on the Tampa Bay Rays for a three-game series. Boston is projected to send Michael Wacha, to the mound tomorrow. Boston currently sits approximately eight games out of a wild-card spot.
