Sweden's Lysell Poses High-Danger Offense Despite Recording ZERO Points (Bruins' Prospect)

Fabian Lysell is no doubt Sweden's top forward at the 2023 World Junior Classic. Lysell is one of many first-round picks on Sweden's roster. The Bruins' first-round pick plays alongside a line with Liam Öhgren (Minnesota) and Noah Oslund (Buffalo), both highly sought-after after prospects.

Why has the Bruins' pick not been able to record a single point? This statistic may be surprising, but Lyle has yet to record a point at the 2023 World Junior Championship. Last year, playing as just an 18-year-old, the Swede was among the team leaders with six points in seven games. Although Team Sweden will likely play another three games in the tournament, it is still fascinating that Lysell has yet to mention it on the game sheet.

There is no doubt that the effort is there in the offensive game of Fabian Lysell. The youngster is one of just a few players from his draft class playing professional hockey in North America. The Boston Bruins assigned the 19-year-old to the P-Bruins in the AHL at the beginning of the season. Since then, Lysell has fared well playing the North American style, as once again he is among the point leaders with 19 points in 20 games.
Unfortunately, Lysell's luck has not been on his side. During Sweden's game against Germany, Lysell was flying across the ice, beating the defenseman wide. Lysell was on a breakaway before being pulled down by a German defender, warranting a penalty shot that was eventually stopped by the goalie. The Swede was fantastic in the games he has played in against Canada, Germany, and Austria. But he missed most of Sweden's win against Czechia as he suffering from an illness.
Another potential reason for the lack of points is the struggle of Sweden's first-unit power play. Lysell mans the wings of the unit and is used as the entry man, skating up and down the ice. Along with the B's pick, Sweden's PP1 includes Axel Sandin Pellikka, Liam Öhgren, Noah Oslund, and Jonathan Lekkerimäki. The four first-round picks and Pellikka have yet to score a power-play goal and have combined for only six points among the five.

Although, Lysell has been held without a point, the Boston Bruins organization should be extremely happy with the play of the their first-round pick.
