MLB Game Recap: Blue Jays at Royals (6/8/22)

 The Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals completed game three earlier today at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. The Jays came in hot, defeating the Royals in the previous two games.

Batting:

During the bottom of the first inning, Andrew Benintendi and rookie Bobby Witt Jr. drew walks. MJ Melendez would then drive in Benintendi by hitting a double to shallow left field, also advancing Witt Jr. to third. Emmanuel Rivera would single to centerfield, bringing in two more runs, giving Kansas City an early 3-0 lead.

Toronto's Raimel Tapia would cut the lead down during the second inning. He hit a solo home run.

Zack Collins would hit a solo home run while Guerrero Jr. grounded out, driving in Biggio to tie the game for Toronto.

During the bottom of the fourth inning, Salvy Perez would single to drive in a run, while Melendez would reach on an error to bring in another run. The Royals led 5-3 after four innings.

Following Michael A. Taylor would double driving in Carlos Santana, who doubled driving in a run. While, Whit Merrifield would double, bringing in another run during the seventh inning. Kansas City led 8-3 going into the top of the ninth inning.

Cavan Biggio would drive Toronto one run closer by hitting a single to drive in Zack Collins. Unfortunately, Toronto wasn't able to make a comeback and ultimately lost 8-4.

Pitching:

Brady Singer started for the Royals. He pitched five solid innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, and striking out five. Dylan Coleman, Jose Cuas, and Josh Staumont all pitched scoreless relief innings, while Scott Barlow closed the ninth out, allowing one run.

Toronto's starter Yusei Kikuchi had a rough outing. The Japanese-born pitcher just went 2/3's of an inning, allowing three runs on two hits. Trevor Richards relived Kikuchi allowing two runs. Andrew Vasquez allowed one run, while Jeremy Beasley allowed two runs. Overall, Blue Jays pitchers had a rough day.

The Jays will look to rebound against the Tigers while Kansas City plays Baltimore.
