MLB Game Recap: Marlins at Mets (6/18/22)

Walker and the New York Mets narrowly defeat the Miami Marlins.

Batting:

Jeff McNeil got New York on the board first after hitting a single to right field, scoring J.D. Davis and Mark Canha.

Francisco Lindor added to the Mets' lead during the third inning. His 11th home run of the year, driving in Starling Marte, gave New York a 3-0 lead.

Miami would respond during the seventh inning. Avisail Garcia would hit a double to deep center field, driving in Jazz Chisholm Jr. Narrowly, the New York led to two.

The Marlins would apply pressure during the ninth inning in desperation. Jon Berti would single to the right field. He then stole second and advanced to third. Garrett Cooper would single to shallow centerfield to drive in Berti. Miami was unable to score more and ended up losing 3-2.

Pitching:

Taijuan Walker got the start for the New York Mets. The veteran pitched 6.2 innings, allowing just one run. Walker's line includes just two hits and nine strikeouts. The 29-year-old received his fifth win of the season while improving his ERA to 2.88. Edwin Diaz also picked up his 14th save, pitching in the ninth.

Braxton Garrett started for the Miami Marlins the rookie went four innings allowing three runs.

Next:

The Mets and Marlins are set to play game three of a four-game set tomorrow. New York will go for win three, defeating the Marlins in the previous two games. New York will send Chris Bassitt, while Miami sends Sandy Alcantara to the mound.
