MLB Game Recap: Reds at Cardinals (6/11/22)

The St. Louis Cardinals have won 5-4 over the Cincinnati Reds. Cincinnati’s Hunter Greene was phenomenal today, the rookie pitched five strong innings. Ultimately, St. Louis walked the game off during the bottom of the ninth.

Batting:

Tommy Pham got the Reds on the board by driving in Brandon Drury and Chris Okey, Pham hit a double to deep left field. Later in the inning, Kyle Farmer would single to left field driving in Pham. The Reds took a 3-0 lead after three innings. 

During the sixth inning, Tyler O’Neil would narrow the gap for the Cardinals, hitting a sacrifice fly and driving in Tommy Edman.

Reds’ second baseman Alejo Lopez would restore the three-run lead during the eighth inning. He hit a single to right field, driving in Kyle Farmer

Tyler O'Neill cut the deficit to one during the eighth inning, he doubled driving in Nolan Arenado and Nolan Gorman.

During the bottom of the ninth Tommy Edman hit a two-run home run walking off the game. He drove in Edmundo Sosa.

Pitching:

Adam Wainwright got the start for St. Louis. The veteran pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on eight hits. Drew VerHagen came in for relief, allowing one run on three hits during the eighth inning. Nick Wittgren pitched the ninth, allowing one hit and no runs.

Hunter Greene pitched five solid innings for the Reds, allowing one run while striking out seven. He was relieved by Alexis Diaz and Luis Cessa, who both pitched scoreless innings. Hunter Strickland started at the top of the eighth. The veteran only recorded one out, allowing two runs. Joel Kuhnel came in for the save. He blew it and took the loss.
