Prospect Preview: Bryce McConnell-Barker

Bryce McConnell-Barker is a centerman currently playing for Sault Ste. Marie of the OHL. Bryce stands at 6'1'' and weighs 193 pounds. He is the older brother of Broden McConnell-Barker.

McConnell-Barker is originally from London, Ontario, the city he played his minor hockey. In his OHL draft year, he played for the London Jr. Knights. Bryce played in 33 games, scoring 48 points at the Alliance U16 AAA level. Thus, leading his team in scoring while playing with Dylan Roobroeck. He concluded the season by being awarded Alliance Play of The Year.

The youngster even got to play in the GOJHL (a junior team) as a call-up. In his six-game stint, McConnell-Barker scored three goals and three assists.

The London-native would be drafted 4th overall by SOO during the 2020 OHL Entry Draft. Unfortunately, McConnell-Barker would not be able to play in the 2020-21 season due to the OHL shutting down due to Covid-19.

The OHL resumed during the 2021-22 season, and McConnell-Barker got his first sight of action up in Sault Ste. Marie. This season he scored a respectable 49 points in 68 games during the regular season. And padded on five more points in ten playoff games.

“While his physicality and battle level aren’t areas of concern like some other similarly-ranked OHL prospects, his inconsistent production and a lack of creativity in his offensive zone approach to get more looks in high-danger areas may limit his ultimate NHL upside as a two-way center.”– Joseph Aleong, FC Hockey
