Trent Frederic Should NOT be a Bruins Regular this Season

Trent Frederic is an interesting piece in the Bruins organization. Frederic was a former first round pick of the B's during the 2016 NHL Draft. And some may argue that he has yet to live up to the high expectations placed on him when he was selected 29th overall.

Frederic is a player that brings physicality into the Bruins lineup. But his physicality comes with other consequences. Penalties! Frederic is a player notorious for getting unnecessary penalties. Does his physical play outweigh his dumb penalties? Definitely not! Frederic was eighth on the team in hits and was fourth on the team in penalty minutes. This led to Frederic being benched and scratched in the midst of the season.

Offensively, Frederic was not much better. In 60 games last season, he was only able to record eight goals and ten assists. For a former first-round pick, you'd definitely expect better results! Players like Jordan Kyrou, Alex DeBrincat and Adam Fox, were drafted after Frederic.

Frederic has a career high of 23 points in 119 games and has averaged third-line minutes throughout his career (11:08).

The former first-round pick is a player that looks to be at the end of his development period, so why keep him in the lineup? His roster spot could be used to develop prospects that are on the verge of making the lineup. For example, Marc Mclaughlin, Oskar Steen, or potentially even Fabian Lysell.

Frederic will have a decreased role on the Bruins once all the players are back and healthy. I'd expect Frederic to rotate in and out of the lineup.
