Fabian Lysell Likely to Start 2022-23 Season in Providence

Fabian Lysell is currently the top-rated prospect within the Boston Bruins organization. The Bruins, 21st overall selection, during the 2021 NHL Draft, left Sweden to play for the Vancouver Giants last season.

With the Giants, Lysell showed similar play and talent to his time playing for Frolunda's J20 and J18 teams. With Vancouver of the WHL, Lysell put up 62 points in 53 games. Lysell played with pace for the Giants, he showed great speed and edge work. Lysell is a player that can be leithal on the rush, pushing the defencemen back and setting up a play for his teammates.

Lysell is a player that plays with a lot of confidence, he is a competitor, that shows attitude and fight. The Bruins forward was one of the most dynamic players representing Team Sweden at the WJC. Team Sweden struggled to create offense, although Lysell finished the tournament with a bronze medal, and six points in seven games.

With Team Sweden, Lysell smoothly transitioned out of his own zone and often skated the puck into and throughout the offensive zone. At the junior level, his opponents aren't able to keep up to him due to his speed and edge work. At times, Lysell over handles the puck, he is a player that plays with pride and shows emotion when frustrated.

It is worthy to note that it is now clear that Lysell will not be returning to junior and will turn pro this season. Lysell was left off the Vancouver Giants training camp roster and isn't likely to go back to Sweden to play in the SHL.

It is likely that the Bruins will send Lysell to the Providence Bruins, to play out most of the season. If Lysell were to break expectations, he would likely be a mid-season call-up to support the Bruins offensive group. But as of now it is unlikely Lysell would be able to crack the top-nine, so it is best he gains experience at the AHL level.

Fabian Lysell will start the season off playing for the Providence Bruins.
