MLB Game Recap: Red Sox at Athletics (6/5/22)

 The Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics cap off a three-game series today, Boston previously took the first two games outscoring Oakland 15-2.

Batting:

Boston's Jarren Duran and Kike Hernandez started the game by hitting singles to put runners on base. Rafael Devers would single to left field, driving in Duran and giving Boston a 1-0 lead.

Not long after, Oakland would respond to tie the game. Chad Pinder doubled to left field, while Ramon Laureano doubled to right field, scoring Pinder.

During the top of the sixth inning, Red Soxs' right-fielder Franchy Cordero hit a three-run home run, driving in Bogaerts and Devers. Boston took a 4-1 lead. 

Rafael Devers would add an insurance run hitting a solo home run barely over the left field wall. Boston leads 5-1 after eight innings.

The Athletics would try to spark a comeback during the ninth inning catcher Christian Bethancourt hit a double to deep right field. He would later be driven in by an RBI single from Tony Kemp.

Unfortunately for Oakland, Boston would take the game by a final score of 5-2.

The Athletics would send ace Frankie Montas to the mount while Boston sends veteran Rich Hill.

Montas would put up a solid start, allowing four runs and six hits in six innings. Only one run was considered an earned run due to a costly Kevin Smith error. Zach Jackson and Dany Jimenez would put up scoreless relief innings for the A's. While A.J. Puk allowed a solo home run to Raffy Devers in one inning of work.

Rich Hill would provide Boston with a terrific start. The lefty would work six strong innings, only allowing one run off three hits. He would strike out five before handing the ball to the bullpen. John Schreiber and Tyler Danish would pitch scoreless relief innings, while Ryan Braiser allowed just one run in the ninth to close off the game.


This concludes the three-game set, Boston ended up sweeping Oakland.
