Cam York Shows Positive Signs with Lehigh Valley

Cam York is described as a puck-moving defenseman, he makes strong passes and has an eye for offense. But ever since turning to the pro level, the d-man has yet to find his footing playing against tougher competition.

York is currently in his third pro season. The Flyers' top pick made his NHL debut during the 2020-21 season, after concluding his final season with the University of Michigan.

Furthermore, the 2021-22 season was York's first full-season splitting time with in the AHL and NHL. Within both levels the d-man played in over 60 games, recording just five goals and ten assists. The lack in scoring from an offensive defensemen showed that York wasn't necessarily comfortable in his transition to the pro level.

As of this season, it looks as if York has found his groove playing for the Phantoms in the AHL. The California native, has so far suited up in 14 games and has scored three goals and seven assists.
The d-man plays a trustworthy style of game, he is accurate with his shots and passes, while breaking out the puck with ease. He is a true offensive defensemen that is and can be a power play quarterback. Although, York definitely lacks elite defensive play.

“A mobile and calm defender with tremendous skating ability. Effective on the power play and owns the mobility needed to clean up any mistakes he makes.” – Cam Robinson, Dobber Prospects

“Puck moving defenceman who can get it done on the power play, his U18 numbers are amongst the best single tournament totals ever put up by a defenceman with 11 points in seven games.” – Sam Cosentino, Sportsnet

“York is a solid, complete two-way defender. His hockey sense is high end, lending itself to smart decision-making under pressure and excellent passing ability, though he could stand to get his own shot on net more consistently. ” – Hannah Stuart, The Scoret
