NHL Rumors: Bruins Injuries (Hall, Lysell), Malgin Deserves Roster Spot, Caufield Impresses, Joe Veleno

Yes, we are finally approaching the start of the 2022-23 season, a time when all 32 teams have a chance to win the Stanley Cup. Here are some of the top headlines and notes prior to the NHL season:

Injuries cost the Bruins Hall and Lysell.

The Boston Bruins have announced that Taylor Hall will be out week-to-week while 19-year-old Fabian Lysell left yesterday's contest and is out day-to-day. Both players are said to have suffered an upper-body injury and have missed practice today.

At this time, it is unknown if Taylor Hall will be ready to start the season, head coach Jim Montgomery added. Hall played on a line alongside David Krejci and Fabian Lysell yesterday.

The Bruins were thoroughly impressed by the offensive depth they saw throughout training camp, so the injuries should make life easier in the meantime. With Brad Marchand already out until midseason, Montgomery will look to shuffle the lineup.

For Fabian Lysell, the youngster left yesterday's game after only five minutes, after taking a Rasmus Ristolainen hit. Lysell did not return to the game, likely for precautionary reasons. It is expected that Lysell will hit the ice again within the next week.

For Boston, they finish their preseason schedule against the Washington Capitals on the 12th before starting the season at home against the Arizona Coyotes.

Denis Malgin Deserves a Spot in the NHL

The Leafs' signee has been superb all training camp and throughout preseason. The 25-year-old Swiss forward is looking to make a second stint back in the NHL. Last season, Malgin suited up for Zurich SC in the Swiss League.

Malgin has shown the urge to make an offensive impact in the preseason. The forward has played in two games so far this season and has recorded two goals and an assist. Malgin shows the ability to score off the rush while also not being afraid to get in the dirty areas if it means scoring.

The Swiss forward was a star last season playing in the Swiss League. Malgin led his Zurich team in goals, assists, and points, with 21 goals and 31 assists in 48 games.

Malgin was originally drafted by the Florida Panthers back in 2015. The fourth-round pick has played in a total of 192 NHL games, with the Panthers and Maple Leafs.

Cole Caufield Impresses During Preseason

The Habs superstar has been all over the offensive game through training camp and preseason. The former first-round pick enters his sophomore season on a high note. The 21-year-old started his rookie season off rocky before tearing up the league after the addition of Martin St. Louis.

Caufield continues to take in support from his head coach after he recorded 23 goals and 20 assists last season. Caufield also suited up for six games with the Laval Rocket last season.

This year, Caufield is expected to play all throughout the season on the top offensive line with Nick Suzuki. So far in the preseason, Caufield has played in two games and has recorded two goals and three assists.

It will be essential for Caufield to have a quality season if the Habs look to compete for a playoff spot within the tough Atlantic Division.

From Exception Status to AHL Star: Can Joe Veleno Finally Break into the NHL?

Joe Veleno has been one of the most controversial prospects in the past five years. The Detroit pick was the first QMJHL player to ever receive the status of "Exceptional" and was granted early access to junior hockey.

Veleno's junior career was a mixture of emotions, and the Quebec native was eventually selected 30th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft by Detroit.

Ever since breaking into the pro game, Veleno has lacked the ability to produce offensively compared to his final seasons in the QMJHL. Coming into the season, Veleno had suited up for 71 NHL games, recording nine goals and seven assists.

The Red Wings' prospect is in the running for one of the final spots on the NHL roster.
