Tony DeAngelo is Thriving on the Top D-Pair for the Philadelphia Flyers

The hometown native, Tony DeAngelo, is widely regarded as a one-way, offensive defenseman in the National Hockey League. DeAngelo, a former first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning, signed a two-year deal, worth $10,000,000, with Philadelphia this offseason.

One person you can depend on to spark the offense is DeAngelo. With a goal and five assists through the first seven games of the season, DeAngelo is once again among the team leaders in points. The 27-year-old controls the Flyers' top power play unit and is a member of their first defensive pairing alongside Ivan Provorov.

DeAngelo, a native of Philadelphia, doesn't hesitate to fire the puck. The right-handed defensemen has a 15.4 shooting percentage and a 44% shots to net percentage. DeAngelo is a player that has contributed to the Flyers' strong start, scoring in 80% of their victories.

Unlike in previous seasons, the defensive game hasn't been a major worry thus far this season. DeAngelo receives playing time on the penalty kill and in critical defensive situations. With 17 blocked shots, the Flyers acquisition ranks among the team's top three players in the category. This season, DeAngelo has also logged over 24 minutes every night  and has a +2 rating.

The pairing of DeAngelo and fellow teammate Ivan Provorov has led the Flyers to early success. Each game, the two appear to be improving off of one another. Together, the two have 11 points and a +7 rating.

The Flyers currently sit with a 5-2-0 record and currently sit at the top of the Metropolitan Division. The Flyers have had a fairly tough schedule to start the season but have fared well, defeating both the Panthers and Lightning.
