Prospect Previews: Lian Bichsel, Filip Mešár

Lian Bichsel - Leksand IF

Bichsel is a Swiss defenseman currently playing for Leksand IF of the SHL. Standing at a whopping 6'5'' and weighing 225 pounds, Bichsel is one of the physically mature players in the entire draft. In 29 SHL games, he recorded three points this season. Bichsel plays a defensive game, playing physical and winning puck battles.

“Uses size and reach effectively to defend. Puck skills and playmaking ability are improving, but there’s still a rawness in these areas.” Sam Cosentino, Sportsnet

Draft Projection: Late-First Round

Filip Mešár - HK Poprad

Filip Mešár is a Slovakian winger playing for HK Poprad in Slovakia. Mešár plays in the top Slovakian League as an 18-year-old, playing against men. The Slovak is gifted offensively. In 37 games, he scored eight goals and eight assists this season. Mešár also represented Team Slovakia at the U18 playing in seven games and scoring 12 points.

“Mešár has the potential to be a steal at the NHL Draft. His transitional play, skating/edges and his passing ability make him a constant threat. He is a well-rounded player and will continue to get stronger. The top-six upside potential is there, and while his production isn’t high in Extraliga play, I’m confident that when Mešár is ready to make the next step and move to North America that the scoring will come. Just a matter of time.” – Josh Tessler, Smaht Scouting
