Who is Shane Wright?

Shane Wright is a high-end prospect in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Wright is originally from Burlington, Ontario, and played his minor hockey with the Don Mills Flyers organization.

In 72 games with the Flyers in his U-16 season, he scored a total of 150 points. He and his teammates also won the OHL Cup.

Wright would then be given exceptional status by the CHL and be selected first overall by the Kingston Frontenacs during the 2019 OHL Draft.

In addition, he would be drafted 175th overall by the Chicago Steel in the 2021 USHL Draft (the junior hockey league in the United States).

In his first season with Kingston, Wright would be selected to wear the "A". In 58 games, he would score 66 points. However, the Frontenacts were one of the worst teams in the entire OHL.

He would also be selected for the U17s and play in five games with Team Canada Black. He would captain the team and score four goals and three assists.

Due to the pandemic, the 2020–21 OHL season would ultimately be cancelled. Wright would choose to not play in another league and wait the season out.

Although he would play in the U18s in Texas for Team Canada. Again, Wright would captain Canada and lead the kids to gold! He would record 14 points in five games. Wright’s teammates included Brandt Clarke, Connor Bedard, and Mason McTavish.

Wright is currently playing with Kingston during the 2021-22 season. He has progressed since his first season, scoring 74 points in 51 games.

He also made Team Canada’s World Junior roster. He played two games before the cancellation of the tournament (due to COVID) and recorded one assist.
