NHL Rumors: Jake Allen's Performance, Rantanen Starts off Strong, Soderblom's First Goal, Matty Beniers


We are in the midst of the NHL season, here are some of the top rumors and news coming from the start of the season:

Jake Allen's Spectacular Performance

Habs' goaltender, Jake Allen was spectacular yesterday, when the Habs took on the Detroit Red Wings. Although, the Habs ultimately lost to the Wings, Allen was one of the best players on the ice. He was even named the third-star of the game.

Allen was bombarded with shots all-throughout the game. The Red Wings started the game strong, racking up 25 shots on goal during the first period. The New Brunswick native, stopped all shots in the first period, including some desperation saves.

The Habs' netminder, ended the game with a .974 save percentage and a 1.03 goals-against-average. Allen turned away, 37-out-of-38 shots on goal.


Allen is expected to suit up for the majority of the Habs regular season games, after the news of Carey Price being out and potentially retiring. 

Mikko Rantanen Starts off Strong

The elusive, Finnish winger has been one of the best players in the NHL, throughout his whole NHL career. The winger was and is a key component of the Colorado Avalanche team, playing in all situations on a high-end role.

Rantanen made his season debut on Wednesday against the Chicago Blackhawks. Rantanen put up a clinic recording four assists, three shots, and over 20 minutes of ice-time. Rantanen's performance ultimately led the Avs' to a 5-2 victory.

The following day, Rantanen was back to work, when his Colorado team faced off against the Calgary Flames. Although, Colorado ultimately fell, Rantanen was stellar once again. The Finnish flash, noted an assist on Valeri Nichuskin's power play goal.

Furthermore, currently Rantanen is tied for first place in points this season.
