The Future: Plenty of Habs' Prospects Start the Season off Strong

One of the greatest prospect pools in the National Hockey League belongs to the Montreal Canadiens. Many of the Habs' prospects have had strong starts to the season thus far. For a squad that is partially rebuilding or retooling, this is crucial. The following prospects have had promising starts in their respective leagues:

Joshua Roy - Sherbrooke Phoenix QMJHL

The standout Canadian from the 2021 World Juniors was chosen in the fifth round of the NHL Entry Draft. Roy is regarded as one of the National Hockey League's most underappreciated prospects. In the QMJHL, Roy ranks high in both points and assists. After a good WJC tournament and preceding season, the 19-year-old started his fourth junior campaign. The winger has six goals and 13 assists in 11 games this year.
Riley Kidney - Acadie-Bathurst Titan QMJHL

Another QMJHL standout who plays for the Montreal Canadiens is Riley Kidney. A premier offensive player with a strong shot and IQ, the former second-round choice is praised for his smarts and goal scoring. Kidney began his fourth junior season on a high, similar to Roy. With 13 assists and 18 points in 13 games so far this season, the 19-year-old is the team's leading assist and point scorer.

Owen Beck - Mississauga Steelheads OHL

One of the most overlooked selections in the entire 2022 NHL Entry Draft was Beck. During his brief training camp and prospect camp with the Montreal Canadiens, the 33rd overall pick made an impression. Beck even secured himself his entry-level contract.   Beck has thus far guided Mississauga of the OHL to success. In just eight games, the 18-year-old has six goals and six assists.
Oliver Kapanen - KalPa Kuopio Liiga

Moving over to Europe, we have defensive minded-forward Oliver Kapanen. The Finnish second-round pick plays a responsible, two-way game, as shown by his silver medal performance with Team Finland at the past WJC.  Playing for Finnish Liiga team: KalPa, Kapanen is one of the youngest players on a pro team. The 19-year-old centermen has started off his Liiga season strong with seven points in 16 pro games.

Filip Mesar - Kitchener Rangers OHL

The offensively dynamic forward made a great impression at training camp leading to his first AHL game at the age of 18. Mesar is described as a little player whose skill compensates for his lack of size and who possesses excellent vision and offensive instincts. Mesar has been a star for the Kitchener Rangers so far this season, notching a hat trick in his first game. The first-round pick has three goals and four assists in his first four games.
Lane Hudson - Boston University NCAA

Transitioning to the NCAA, we have dynamic prospect Lane Hudson. The 5'9'' defensemen is arguably the best offensive defensemen, drafted in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Of all the NHL prospects, the second-round selection possesses one of the greatest skating skills and offensive brains. Playing for BU in the NCAA, Hudson has been nothing less than brilliant; in his first six games, the defenseman has a goal and five assists.
