FOUR NHL Prospects that Have Been Dominating the OHL this Season (TOR, DAL, MTL, NYR, EDM)

The Ontario Hockey League is one of the premier junior leagues in the entire world. The league has produced the mass of NHL talent seen today, such as Connor McDavid, John Tavares and Steven Stamkos. Here are five players having tremendous years in the OHL, this season:

Ty Voit - Sarnia Sting (TOR)

The Toronto Maple Leafs fifth-round selection during the 2021 NHL Entry Draft is currently the OHL leader in points. The just 19-year-old, is one of the premier playmakers in the entire league and has lead his Sarnia team to a positive 7-4-4 record.

Voit is simply dominating the league in his D+2 season, and it is expected to increase his point totals with the recent Sarnia acquisition of goal-scorer Sasha Pastujov (ANA Prospect). Pastujov, a gifted winger was recently acquired from the Guelph Storm to play on a line alongside Voit. Currently this season, the Leafs' prospect has six goals and 30 assists in 21 games.

Francesco Arcuri - Kingston Frontenacs (DAL) 

The Dallas Stars may have one of the most underrated farm systems in the entire National Hockey League. Arcuri furthermore, just proves the point. The Woodbridge, Ontario native was a sixth-round pick by Dallas during the 2021 draft. 

Arcuri has shown an increase in production within the past three OHL seasons he has played in. The Dallas pick, holds NHL size, playmaking ability and the will to retrieve loose pucks. Currently this season, Arcuri is the team leader with 25 points in 22 games.

Owen Beck - Mississauga Steelheads (MTL)

The Montreal Canadiens recent second-round pick surprised many this training camp, when he earned his entry-level contract, after his strong preseason showing. Beck is a prospect that has flown under the radar within the Habs' organization, due to presence of Juraj Slafkovsky and Filip Mesar.

This preseason, Beck showed off his elite skill-set along with his high-paced, smart game. So far with the Steelheads, the forward has been nothing less. As expected, Beck is the Steelheads leader with 25 points in just 17 games.

Matvey Petrov - North Bay Battalion (EDM)

Petrov is an elite, offensively minded forward within the Edmonton Oilers organization. The former sixth-round pick is looking like a gem in the rough for the Oilers, as he continues to play in his second OHL season. The Russian-born forward, has excelled at the Canadien Junior Level, as showcased with his 90 point season as an 18-year-old.

This season, at the age of just 19-years-old, Petrov is playing at another level. The high-scoring winger currently has nine goals and 16 assists in 19 games. Petrov holds many accolades, for example a few weeks ago he was named OHL Player of the Week.
