Hurricanes Acquire Max Pacioretty From Vegas

The Carolina Hurricanes have made some significant moves by acquiring all-star players via trade. To start the day, the Canes acquired Brent Burns from the San Jose Sharks, but now they have traded for Max Pacioretty from Vegas.  The deal consists of Vegas sending Max Pacioretty and Dylan Coghlan to Carolina in exchange for future considerations. The Golden Knights were in vital need of cap space, and they gained 7 million dollars in the trade of Pacioretty.  Max Pacioretty was riddled with injuries during the 2021-22 season and only ended up playing 39 games. Vegas struggled in his absence, but the winger had a solid 19 goals and 18 assists.   Dylan Coghlan is a right-handed defenceman who was on-and-off with the Golden Knights' bottom d-line pair. Last season, he played in 59 games, scoring three goals and ten assists. The Hurricanes continue to add superstar veterans to their lineup after a disappointing second-round exit to the Rangers last season.

Vegas Hires Bruce Cassidy

The Vegas Golden Knights have hired Bruce Cassidy as their third head coach in franchise history. Cassidy, the former head coach of Boston, was let go just weeks ago. Rumors came out that reportedly Bruins management told Cassidy his job was safe. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Cassidy has been in Boston’s organization since the 2008-09 season, serving as the assistant coach for Providence (AHL). He would then be named the interim head coach during the middle of the 2016-17 season. Cassidy did not miss a single playoff leading the Bruins his accomplishments include The Jack Adams award during the 2019-20 season. The Vegas Golden Knights previously relieved former Peter DeBoer of coaching duties after the conclusion of the 2021-22 season. After, Vegas failed to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. The Knights and Cassidy hope to strive for the upcoming 2022-23 season.

Fun Fact, the Ducks drafted Theodore 26th overall during the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. The Langley native played junior hockey for the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL. In his final season, Theodore scored 48 points in 43 games. He was scouted as a two-way defenceman with elite-offensive skill. The 2015-16 season would be Theodore's first pro season. He would report to the San Diego Gulls (AHL affiliate of the Ducks) and play 50 games. He would also make his NHL debut season and score his first NHL goal. Theodore played 19 games with the Ducks, recording five points. The following season Theodore would split time in the AHL and NHL. He finished the season playing 34 NHL games and 26 AHL games.  The following season Theodore would split time in the AHL and NHL.
